Trick-or-treaters and their parents will find it a little easier to stay safe on the festive eve of All Saints’ Day.
On Halloween day, designated trick-or-treating at downtown businesses gives kids a safe zone to gather candy. Free rides home on Saturday, Oct. 28, make sure their adult parents get a sober ride.
Downtown trick or treating
Over 50 downtown businesses will welcome trick-or-treaters on Oct. 31 from 2-6 p.m. Neighborhood business along Seward Street, Front Street and Franklin Street will offer candy, backpacks, bookmarks, a photo booth and other treats in celebration of Halloween.
Trick-or-treaters can look for orange balloons and “trick-or-treating here” signs on doors of participating businesses.

Free rides home
Even a brainless zombie knows to get a ride home from a sober driver on Halloween.
Juneau/Lynn Canal CHARR, an affiliate of the Alaska Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association, will offer free rides home between 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 and 3 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29.
Fifteen bars, restaurants and markets will call cabs for patrons for free. Participating cabs will have flashing green lights to make them easily identifiable. The rides are offered through the Safe Ride Juneau Program, which has provided free rides home on holidays since 2005.
Sponsors are the Alaskan Brewing Company, Odom, Specialty Imports and K&L Distributers.
