This month’s Wildlife Wednesday talk will address the topic of managing bear populations on Alaska’s national preserves.
Jim Adams, Alaska Regional Director of National Parks Conservation Association, will lead the presentation on Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the University of Alaska Southeast Egan Lecture Hall.
Alaska’s National Preserves are part of the National Park System, and Congress has charged that entity with maintaining natural populations of wildlife on preserves. But, according to a flier for the lecture, Alaska has included the national preserves in its efforts to reduce bear population in order to increase moose and caribou harvest, resulting in conflict and litigation.
Wildlife Wednesdays are monthly events hosted by the nonprofit The Alaska Wildlife Alliance Southeast. Events are free and open to the public, and refreshments served.
