Woman arrested for hitting police officer

Alleged downtown assault happened as police were arresting another person

Two Juneau residents were taken to jail Tuesday after an incident that involved the assault of a police officer, according to a Juneau Police Department release.

Leroy Jacobs, 41, and Marilyn Willard, 48, were reportedly trespassing at a business in the 200 block of South Franklin Street at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the release. An officer arrived and spoke with the building manager, who told the officer that Jacobs and Willard had been consistently camping on the property.

When the officer tracked Jacobs and Willard down on Ferry Way, Jacobs was aggressive and hostile toward the officer, according to the release. The officer called for another officer to help, and the two of them arrested Jacobs for disorderly conduct, the release states.

While the officers were doing this, according to the release, Willard came up from behind and hit one of the officers in the head. The officers then arrested Willard, charging her with assaulting a police officer. She was also charged with violating conditions of release from an unrelated case.

Jacobs and Willard were taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and were also given trespass letters for trespassing on the business’ property. The officer who was hit in the head was evaluated at the hospital and was released later that day with minor injuries, according to the release.

According to JPD’s daily bulletin, Willard was also arrested Monday afternoon for disorderly conduct in the 200 block of Franklin Street. According to the bulletin, alcohol was a factor and Willard was later released on her own recognizance.
