ANCHORAGE — Alaska State Troopers say a 39-year-old woman died and two children were injured in a residential fire in the western Alaska village of Chevak (CHEE’-vack).
Troopers say Denise Jones of Chevak was unresponsive after being removed from the burning home on Thursday. Troopers say lifesaving measures failed to revive Jones.
Troopers say one of the injured children was flown to Bethel and the other to Anchorage for medical treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available Friday.
It’s unclear what the relationship of the children to Jones was.
Troopers say Jones’ remains were being sent to Anchorage for an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
