A 27-year-old woman was shot in the thigh downtown early Saturday morning in what appears to be an unintentional, self-inflicted shooting, according to a Saturday Juneau Police Department release.
Multiple other firearms were located in the residence and police will investigate the shooting further, the release states. The woman sustained serious injuries to her leg but was in stable condition as of Saturday.
Police have not released the woman’s name.
JPD responded to a 911 call from a residence in the 400 block of Harris Street at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, the release states. The caller reported that a female at the residence had been shot in her right thigh.
Capital City Fire/Rescue arrived on scene sometime after JPD and transported the woman to Bartlett Regional Hospital.
Several firearms were located inside the residence and were seized by police but JPD does not yet know which firearm was used in the shooting.
Alcohol or controlled substances may have contributed to the shooting, police say.
