Claude Millsap Jr.

Claude Millsap Jr. passed away on Feb. 12, 2016. He was 95 years old.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was discharged in Alaska. He was elected the first Juneau Borough chairman in 1963. He was accredited with starting the first Alcoholics Anonymous group in Juneau in the early ‘60s. He later became directors of the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, the Housing and Urban Development Board and the Airport Leasing Board in Anchorage. He privately served as a board member of numerous charitable organizations. In retirement, he moved to Michigan and continued his community service.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Millsap and brother-in-law Jack Whitter of Waterford, Michigan; his sister, Muriel Jensen of Eugene, Oregon; daughter, Norma Fleek (Wayne) and grandson, Ryan Strickland of Juneau; grandson, Matthew Strickland (Amelia) of Tustin, California. He was proceeded in death by his daughter Linda Millsap.
