Elsie Lee Brown died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, surrounded by family on her final days.
Brown was born in Juneau, and graduated from high school with a 4.0 average.
She married Austin Harding Brown in 1953, they had eight children together. She worked for the federal government for two years, followed by employment with the Territory of Alaska.
Her lifelong dream was to attend college; this was realized at the age of 45. She attended the University of Washington, leaving Juneau with three teenagers and a 9-month-old. Brown returned to Juneau to work at the Division of Administrative Services, Department of Health & Social Services. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business, retiring as a Contract Specialist. She worked in the same office for almost 43 years; at the time, she was the second-longest serving employee of the State of Alaska.
