Joel Howard Barnett
Joel Howard Barnett died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. He was the fourth child of William Raymond and Winnifred Esther Barnett.
He is survived by his adult children: Randy Barnett, Roger Barnett, JoJean Anderson, and longtime close lady friend Ellen Taylor.
After completing high school in Ione, Oregon, Barnett joined the U.S. Navy. His ship, the U.S.S. Noble, was deployed to Korea as part of the Inchon Armada.
In the summer of 1969, Barnett achieved a lifelong dream of living in Alaska when he moved his family to Juneau.
There, Barnett worked as a Lead Oiler on the Alaska Marine Highway System Vessels, Taku and Matanuska. He was on board the Taku the night she hit the rocks! He then went to work for the Juneau School District as their lead boiler maintenance man until his retirement.
Later, Barnett fulfilled his desire of moving back to the home of his birth, Ione, Oregon.
