Eileen Elizabeth Kotyk

Eileen Elizabeth Kotyk (Kieran) died Nov. 16, 2013, in Juneau. She was 64 years old.

She was born in Cleveland on Labor Day, 1949, and grew up there. She taught at playgrounds and schools in both Cleveland and Alaska. Holy Family School had her teaching among others the child of football great Jim Brown and directing her original plays. Her love of reading led her to a campus library job where she met her husband whom she married. Together they raised Jennifer, Christopher, William, Douglas and Mary; their grandchildren are Cooper, Laila, Faolan, Olivia, Nicholas and Benjamin all of South Central Alaska. Eileen attended Lourdes Academy, Tri C and Akron University in Ohio and University of Alaska Southeast and University of Alaska Fairbanks.

She worked for the Board of Elections, Henry House, The Racket Club, Hope CR and Reach Inc. as a CNA. She volunteered at schools (Glacier Valley and Harborview elementary), churches (St. Paul’s, Salvation Army, Church of Latter-day Saints, others), civic organizations (Girl Scouts, Governors Board of the Alaska Brain Injury Network, UA Alaska Homemakers Club) and more benefitted from her countless hours of service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleanor Kieran.

She is survived by her brother, John of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her husband Ronald and their children and grandchildren.
