Joe Burke
Joe Burke of Shoreham, Long Island, New York, passed from natural causes last Thursday, March 3. His last months were spent immersing himself in daily life in Juneau, walking, caring for his infant grandson and meeting with friends in sobriety. He had nearly 23 years of continuous sobriety at the time of his passing. He wrote a lot and blogged under the name “liberaljoe.” His family said he had a irreverent sense of humor, brilliant intuition and a deep regard for social justice. In his professional life he helped nonprofits and businesses to connect meaningfully with customers, and held numerous executive, board and consulting positions.
He is survived by his five children Lisa, Christian, Erin, Jason and Heather; ex-wife, Mari Craig; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at the Shrine of St. Therese at 3 p.m. An open meeting of his friends in sobriety will be held Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. at McPheteres Hall at the intersection of 4th and Gold St. A vigil walk for friends and the public will be held afterwards at 6: 05 p.m. with refreshments to follow.
