Kyle M. (Kai) Barril
Born in Juneau on Jan. 10, 1984, Kyle M. (Kai) Barril passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2017, at the age of 33. Barril was of the Eagle moiety and of the Thunderbird clan.
He graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 2002 then completed a course at the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. Barril’s love of cooking allowed him to travel in Europe, around the Caribbean, the west coast of the United States and to Hawaii while working on cruise ships. At the time of his death, Barril was working at the Sandbar and Grill in Juneau.
Barril is survived by his parents Al and Annette Barril, brothers Shane and Cody, his sister Erin, sister-in-law Raylynn all of Juneau, and his young daughter Zoe of Ardmore, Oklahoma. He will also be greatly missed my numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many lifelong friends.
A memorial mass is scheduled for Monday, July 17, 2017, 5:30 pm at the Cathedral of the Nativity in Juneau. A celebration of life honoring Barril will be held at 7 p.m. at Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventures, also on Monday, July 17. Friends and family are encouraged to bring a dish to share along with their memories of Barril.
