Dear Editor,
As a result of the Affordable Care Act, the number of insured in Alaska has gone up 25 percent. That translates to a whopping 35,000 residents of Alaska that are in danger of losing their health care coverage. If Congress succeeds in their intention to end health care for 30 million Americans, this country stands to lose 3 million jobs, our national deficit will skyrocket by the hundreds of billions and the lives of many Alaskans and Americans will be endangered.
I could not agree more with Secretary Sylivia M. Burwell, who has said, “Alaskans … have better health coverage and care today as a result of the ACA. Millions of Americans with all types of coverage have a stake in the future of health reform. We need to build on our progress and continue to improve health care access, quality and affordability, not move our system backward.”
The citizens of Alaska must not go backwards. They cannot afford to stand quietly by in the face of this impending nightmare. The best strategy Alaska can adopt for saving the ACA is for as many Alaskans as possible to call U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and their local representatives. Let them know in no uncertain terms that their jobs depend on their fighting tooth and nail against repeal. Let the voice of Alaska be heard in Congress.
North to the future.
Sincerely,
Lisa Ristorucci
