The Kake boys basketball team took down Angoon in one of the more dominant showings at Wednesday’s opening round of the Region V 1A tournament at Thunder Mountain High School.
The Thunderbirds beat Angoon 58-13, with three of Kake’s players scoring in the double digits. Only three of Angoon’s players made the scorebook as Kake’s defense matched their scoring ability.
Kake blanked Angoon’s offense in the first period on their way to a 19-point lead. Thunderbird Kyle Dean connected on two three-point field goals in the first while teammate Simon Friday contributed five in the period.
Angoon showed a little offensive life in the second period. The Eagles got to the charity stripe for 10 shots in the quarter, sinking six of those, but were unable to cut into the Thunderbirds’ lead, which remained at 19 points through halftime.
Angoon couldn’t sustain their offense in the third, and was once again held scoreless for an entire period. The Eagles were outscored 31-5 in the second half.
