The Thorne Bay boys basketball team defeated Gustavus on Wednesday, 31-30, to continue on in the losers’ bracket of the Region V 1A Basketball Tournament held at Thunder Mountain High School.
Thorne Bay took a 12-7 lead after the first quarter, and stretched that lead to 19-15 at halftime.
Gustavus battled back to tie the game at 25-25 at the end of the third, and Thorne Bay proved to be one point better in the final quarter.
Thorne Bay junior Dominic Stephens-Wilson led his team with 10 points, followed by eighth grader Owen Chadwick with seven and junior Brayden Schwab with six.
Gustavus was led in scoring by senior Jonah Patrick’s game-high 20 points. Eighth grader Jacob Patrick scored 10.
Thorne Bay will next pay the loser of the Hydaburg/Kake game at 4:30 p.m. today. Results of the Hydaburg/Kake contest will appear online at juneauempire.com.
