Alwen Carrillo, an all-state senior guard for Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé, signed a national letter of intent Monday to play college basketball for Edmond College in Lynnwood, Washington.
The signing ceremony took place in the George Houston Gymnasium at JDHS among Carrillo’s family, friends, teammates, coaches and other school officials.
Carrillo was voted to the third team in the 4A division of the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Basketball Team, the only JDHS player to make that team this year. The 5’10” guard has also won numerous other honors, including being named to this year’s Region V all-conference team last month.
He averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 turnovers a game in 28 games during his senior season. He also averaged double figures in scoring during his sophomore and junior seasons.
The Edmonds College Tritons were 22-9 during the past season, making it to the Elite 8 of the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament.
