The Juneau-Douglas High School hockey team continued their hot play by defeating the Bartlett Golden Bears 12-2 in action Saturday night at Treadwell Arena.

The Crimson Bears scored the first four goals of the game. Senior Chase Barnum started the scoring with a long shot through traffic from the blue line two minutes into the game. The second goal was scored by Bill Bosse, who benefited from an outstanding play from Kasey Watts. Watts sprinted past the defense and appeared to be on his way to a breakaway when he was tripped up. While sliding on his belly, Watts passed the puck over to Bosse, who was charging down the left side and scored.

The goal amped up an already excited Crimson Bear team that would go onto score 10 more times in the game.

Eight different players scored for the Crimson Bears.

The defense allowed only 20 shots on goal and only two in the third period. Goalie Kyle Farley-Robinson stopped 17 of 18 shots. The quantity of goals scored by so many players was good news for coach Luke Adams.

The Crimson Bears go to Fairbanks to play two games with Lathrop that will determine the seeding in the playoffs. Junior Quinn Gist, who scored two goals and had two assist, said the victories this weekend has given them confidence, but they “still have things to work on.”

Adams emphasized that his team’s confidence that they can score was important for the team to develop before heading north for the big games with Lathrop. After Lathrop, the team swings by Anchorage to play six-time state champions South Anchorage Wolverines and then the Chugiak Mustangs before heading home. The last games of the season are with the North Pole Patriots on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 at Treadwell.
