Edwin drops 55 points in one game

B Bracket

Angoon 84, Yakutat 76

When Clayton Edwin laces up for the Gold Medal Tournament, standby — you might see a 55-point eruption like his game against Yakutat. Edwin scored two out of every three points for Angoon, who knocked off Yakutat from the B Bracket.

Hydaburg 96, Metlakatla 88

After scoring 81 points in a first-round B Bracket loss to Wrangell, Metlakatla’s 88 points Tuesday night wasn’t enough against Hydaburg. Vinny Edenshaw carried his team to victory with 51 points. With the loss, Metlakatla was eliminated from the tournament.

C Bracket

James Gang 88, Kake 52

Sean Joslyn scored 20 points as the James Gang eliminated Kake with a lopsided 88-52 win. Kake, who also lost in the first round to Klukwan, was eliminated from the C Bracket.

Hoonah 88, Angoon 66

Angoon’s Levi Johnson scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, but Hoonah proved too much for their C Bracket neighbors to the south. In addition to Anthony Lindoff’s 26 points, five other Hoonah players scored at least 10 points in the win.

Women’s Bracket

Haines 62, Hoonah 55

Haines scored 39 second-half points to defeat Hoonah Tuesday — the first day of the Women’s Gold Medal Tournament. Thanks to contributions from Alisa Beska (14 points), Fran Daly (15 points) and Sarah Elliot (11 points), Haines now advances to the semifinals Thursday at 6 p.m. against Yakutat. Hoonah will need three straight wins Wednesday, Friday and Saturday if it wants to win the championship.
