The Juneau Empire will be live streaming local basketball games exclusively online at juneauempire.com.

Thanks to a primary sponsorship from the Wells Fargo Dimond Field House, the Empire is now able to provide live video of all home games for Juneau-Douglas and Thunder Mountain High Schools boys and girls teams for the remainder of the season.

This weekend, the Empire will be live streaming the JDHS girls homecoming game against Fairbanks’ Lathrop High School at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The other three teams have the weekend off from play.

Stay tuned next weekend, too, for live streaming video of the TMHS girls’ home game against Mt. Edgecumbe at 8 p.m. Friday (1/26) and Saturday (1/27).

Larry Johansen of Alaska Sports TV will be providing the broadcasts in high definition quality. Special features include multiple camera angles from four to six high-definition cameras, and instant replays. Former JDHS basketball coach and two-time Alaska Hall of Famer George Houston and state champion football player and JDHS graduate Angelo Katasse and will be doing play-by-play announcing live on air.

The Empire is still seeking secondary sponsorships to help cover the cost of providing this live video coverage on our website, juneauempire.com. Any interested sponsors can contact Juneau Empire Advertising Director Kathryn Fritz at kathryn.fritz@juneauempire.com or 523-2274. If more sponsors sign on, the Empire can expand the live video streaming toward other sports as well, such as football, volleyball, track and more.
