The Thunder Mountain High School girls basketball team got revenge Wednesday on the team that handed them their first loss of the season.

The Falcons (1-2) defeated the Mustangs on the road 39-33 after holding Chugiak to just four points in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors previously had defeated the Falcons at TMHS on Dec. 26, 43-30.

Ava Tompkins and Nina Fenumiai led the Falcons 10 points each, followed by Alondra Echiverri and Siniva Maka with six each, Cyrene Uddipa added four and Haleigh DiCarlo scored three in the win.

Nicole Pinckney scored a game-high 13 points for the Mustangs, followed by Hannah Russell with seven and Kassidy Martin with five.

TMHS took a commanding 16-4 lead after the first quarter but its offense stalled in the second, scoring just two points. Chugiak fought back to an 18-17 deficit at halftime. The Mustangs continued their momentum into the third quarter, taking a 29-23 lead after three.

In the fourth quarter, however, the Falcons caught fire again, with TMHS outscoring the Mustangs 16-4 in the final quarter. Tompkins, Uddipa and Fenumiai scored four each in the period to give the Falcons their first win of the season.

TMHS shot 11-of-16 from the free throw line and sank two shots from 3-point range. Chugiak was just 4-of-12 from the charity stripe and knocked down five shots from long range.
