Falcons season ends in 60-47 loss to JDHS

The Juneau-Douglas High School boys basketball team’s fast start eliminated the Thunder Mountain Falcons from the 4A Boys Region V basketball tournament Thursday afternoon. JDHS won 60-47 over their crosstown rival.

JDHS’s Ulyx Bohulano scored 23 points. Kolby Hoover added 13.

The Falcons received 10 points from Josh McAndrews, nine from Chase Saviers and eight from Vaipuna Toutaiolepo.

JDHS opened the game on an 18-4 run. All five JDHS starters scored within the first four minutes of the game. Erik Kelly’s put back late in the first quarter gave JDHS its largest lead of the first half at 14.

After several blocked balls in the first couple minutes, the Falcons unleashed 12 3-pointers in the first two quarters, converting on four of them.

The Falcons trailed 28-19 at halftime.

Noah Reishus-O’Brien picked up his fourth foul midway through the third quarter after missing three field goals, putting the star shooting guard in jeopardy of fouling out. The Crimson Bears’ offense slowed, though, and the Falcons drew within five points twice in the third frame.

Ulyx Bohulano made a 3-pointer as time expired in the third quarter to give JDHS a 40-34 lead.

Juneau-Douglas outscored TMHS 20-13 in the final quarter.

Lee brothers push Ketchikan past Thunder Mountain Wednesday

Ketchikan’s Marcus and Chris Lee combined for 34 points in the second round of the 4A Boys Region V tournament to beat Thunder Mountain 65-44.

Chase Saviers scored 12 points for TMHS, but could not penetrate the Kings’ zone defense.

“We like to play fast overall. We consider ourselves a fast team, so every game we try to push the floor,” Marcus said. “Shakim Bauer, he’s great at getting the rebounds and just throwing the ball out to our wings and getting the ball up the floor.”

The Kings play Juneau-Douglas today at 8:15 p.m. A Ketchikan win would clinch the 4A Boys Region V championship, but a loss would set the teams up for a Saturday final at 8:15 p.m. at JDHS.
