Klukwan and Filcom played a competitive C Bracket game Thursday as part of this year’s Gold Medal Basketball Tournament at Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé.
Klukwan battled every step of the way, but Filcom got out in front early on and stayed there, maintaining a 15- to 20-point lead through most of the game, ending with a final score of 78-63.
Alex Heumann of Filcom said he’s grateful for the win but overall the team needs to play better in terms of creating good offense for one another and making the most out of each possession.
“I’m thankful for the win,” Heumann said. “I love playing against Stuart and Jesse and those guys, they’ve been competing with us for 15 years now and I relish the opportunity to square off with number 40 everytime. As always, we’ll take the win, much love to Klukwan, and we’ll keep rolling.”
Heumann led in scoring for a total of 27 points and for Klukwan, Jesse McGraw led with 21 points.
Filcom now advances to Saturday’s championship game at 6 p.m. and Klukwan will play against Hoonah at 6 p.m. on Friday to see who advances to Saturday’s tilt against Filcom.
