Juneau’s Glacier Swim Club travelled to Anchorage for the Alaska Junior Olympics State Championship Swim Meet last weekend, finishing third in total points.
Anchorage’s Aurora Swim Team took first place with 4,702 points, Anchorage/Palmer’s Northern Lights Swim Club took second with 3,314 points, and GSC netted 2,226 points for bronze.
Four hundred and eighty-two athletes from 23 teams participated in meet. Northern Lights Swim Club’s Emmie Jennings won Female Swimmer of the Year and Kodiak Kingfishers swimmer Talon Lindquist won Male Swimmer of the Year.
Seven new state records were set at the meet: Three by Trey Hesser for boys under 10 years (100 backstroke, 500 freestyle and 50 backstroke), and three by Lindquist for 15-16 year old boys (1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 freestyle); the Northern Lights Swim Club’s boys open 400 medley relay team also set a new state record with a time of 3 minutes and 32 seconds.
