The Juneau Lions Club announced Tuesday it is now accepting letters of interest for entrance into the 72nd Annual Invitational Gold Medal Basketball Tournament.

Teams can apply for tournament entry by sending a letter or email stating a) the community they represent; b) their desired division; c) team name; d) point of contact name to juneaulions1917@gmail.com or PO Box 020911, Juneau, Alaska, 99802.

The deadline for requesting a team’s entrance into the tournament is Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018. The Lions Club will send invitations to admitted teams on Jan. 11.

The tournament is March 18-24, 2018 at Juneau-Douglas High School. There are the same four divisions in next year’s tournament as this year’s: “B”, “C”, “Masters” and “Women’s.”

Juneau Lions Club Vice Presidents Nicole McCabe, Tim Wilson and Sarah Dybdahl have been named the tournament co-chairs.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that letters of interest can be emailed to lions@goldmedalbasketball.org, due to incorrect information provided to the Empire in a release. The letters can be emailed to juneaulions1917@gmail.com. The article also incorrectly stated Lion Marie Beierly is a tournament co-chair, for the same reason. Nicole McCabe, Tim Wilson and Sarah Dybdahl have been named tournament co-chairs. The article has been updated to reflect the changes.
