The Juneau-Douglas High School swim team competed in Ketchikan over the weekend, and the Thunder Mountain swimmers hosted a tri-meet at the Dimond Park Aquatics Center.

“I was very pleased with the way the kids swam,” JDHS coach Seth Cayce said via email. “We are in a tough part of the season, and they are still getting best times or very close to them.”

The JDHS Girls Individual winners on Friday were Gabi Kito in the 200 free and 100 free; Rielly Walsh in the 200 IM; Tasha Elizarde the 100 fly and Sarah Mertz the 100 back. Boys individual winners were Aidan Seid in the 200 IM; Cody Weldon the 50 free, Will Blanc the 100 fly and Eric Schumacher the 100 back.

Girls relay winners were Eliza Chappell, Kaia Hamrick, Gabi Kito, Rielly Walsh in the 200 medley; Hamrick, Chappell, Andyn Mulgrew-Truitt and Walsh in the 200 free; and Gabi Kito, Ria Padro, Sarah Mertz, Sophia Kaelke in the 400 free.

Boys relay winners were Eric Schumacher, Aidan Seid, Will Blanc and Cody Weldon in the 200 medley; and Schumacher, Blanc, Elias Antaya and Seid in the 200 free.

Friday girls team scores were JDHS 210, Petersburg 77, Ketchikan 74. Boys team scores were Ketchikan 158, JDHS 109, Petersburg 94. The combined team scores were JDHS 319, Ketchikan 232 and Petersburg 171.

“With only 16 of 27 swimmers at this meet, we proved that we have a lot of depth and versatility for both the boys and girls,” Cayce said “We can stick a number of different kids in each event or in a slot on a relay and still score a lot of points.”

Saturday’s girl individual winners were Chappell in the 200 IM, Kito the 50 free and 100 fly, and Kaelke the 500 free. Boy individual winners were Antaya the 200 IM and 100 fly, Schumacher the 50 free and Seid the 100 back.

Saturday girls relay winners were Chappell, Kaelke, Kito and Mulgrew-Truitt in the 200 medley; Mulgrew-Truitt, Padro, Kaelke, and Walsh in the 200 free; and Kito, Chappell, Padro, Walsh in the 400 free. Boys relay winners were Seid, Antaya, Blanc and Schumacher in the 200 medley; and Weldon, Blanc, Seid and Schumacher in the 400 free.

Saturday girls team scores had JDHS in first with 204, Ketchikan 86 and Petersburg 28. Boys team scores had Ketchikan first with 160, JDHS 110 and Petersburg 89. The combined scores were JDHS 314, Ketchikan 246 and Petersburg 117.

“We had another solid day,” Cayce said. “Some kids had tired legs, but I thought everyone swam fairly well. Their hard work is showing. While we had good results this weekend there is still a lot of room for improvement.”

The Sitka Wolves swept the Thunder Mountain Tri-Meet at the Dimond Park Pool.

Friday team scores showed the Sitka girls in first with 135 points and the Thunder Mountain Falcons second with 131. The Sitka boys were first with 149; Thunder Mountain, 85; and the Craig Panthers, 9.

Saturday team scores had the Sitka girls first with 151, Thunder Mountain, 124; and Craig 1. The Sitka boys were first with 151, Thunder Mountain, 86; and Craig, 3.

Falcons finishes on Saturday included: Naomi Ferster winning the girls 200 freestyle in 2:12.85 and placing third in the 100 free; Bergen Davis winning the boys 200 IM in 2:03.98 and the 100 free in 51.92; Taylor Beardslee winning the girls 100 back in 1:06.03; Aly Heaton winning the girls 100 breast in 1:20.53; Peyten Schultz second in the girls 200 IM and 100 fly; Beardslee, Annie Hagen, Evangelyn Pajarillo and Ferster placing second in the girls 200 medley relay; Davis, Rayme Matiashowski, Spencer Holt and Noatak Post second in the boys 200 medley relay; Beardslee second in the girls 50 free; Holt second in the boys 50 free and 500 free; Selma Matiashowski second in the girls 500 free; Maya Garza, Dang Loseby, Anya McLaughlin and S. Matiashowski third in the girls 200 free relay; Speth, Dylan Allio, Reliance Henderson and Chris Ray third in the boys 200 free relay; Ray second in the boys 100 back; Allio fourth in the boys 100 breast; Gavin Speth fourth in the boys 200 free; Jessie Cooper, Garza, McLaughlin and Loseby third in the girls 400 free relay; and R. Matiashowski, Allio, Henderson, and Speth second in the boys 400 free relay.

JDHS and TMHS will host a meet on Friday and Saturday at the Dimond Park Aquatics Center. The meet will also include Sitka, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Craig and Metlakatla.

Friday swim competition times begin at 6 p.m. Saturday swimming begins at 4 p.m. The Crimson Bears will have senior appreciation on Friday at 5:45 p.m., and the Falcons on Friday at the dive break, roughly 7 p.m.
