The Crimson Bears are now 2-1 in tournament play following a Wednesday night win in Las Vegas.
The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé boys toppled Bonanza High School 63-50 for their second win in the Tarkanian Classic.
Coach Robert Casperson said by email that it was a “very good win” for the Crimson Bears against a “talented and competitive team.” JDHS’ record now sits at 2-1.
“I’m very proud of how we are learning from each game and making the necessary adjustments before our next opportunity,” said coach Robert Casperson in an email. “This team is taking ownership for their growth and progressing quickly. And it’s really encouraging to see that our defensive pressure is the foundation of our success. We’re creating a lot of turnovers, getting deflections, and making teams shoot under duress.”
Junior Sean Oliver and senior Orion Dybdahl led Juneau-Douglas in scoring with Oliver putting up 19 points and Dybdahl scoring 16. Senior Joey Aline also broke double digitis with 11 points, while others came close to the mark, including senior Kai Hargrave with 9 and junior Alwen Carrillo with 8.
Next up for the Crimson Bears was Muir High School of California for their last game of the Las Vegas-based tournament. Next week, they’ll be home for tournament play in the Princess Cruises Capital City Classic with Soldotna at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Haines at 5 p.m. Thursday.
