After allowing just 29 points in a win over Juneau-Douglas High School Saturday, the Thunder Mountain High School girls basketball team had trouble slowing the Crimson Bears on Tuesday.
Playing in the first round of the ASAA Region V 4A basketball tournament in Ketchikan, the Lady Falcons lost 56-27 to their crosstown rivals in the first game of the five-day tournament.
After sitting out all but 22 seconds of Saturday’s game, JDHS senior Cassie Dzinich played parts of three quarters Tuesday, scoring five points. Dzinich tore her ACL late last month but hasn’t let it keep from the court.
“I think on Saturday we had a lot of things going on, it’s senior night, Cassie’s out and we weren’t at the top of our game,” JDHS head coach Lesslie Knight said. “I think some of our kids might have underestimated Thunder Mountain, I think Thunder Mountain always plays really, really hard. You can’t underestimate them.”
Junior Caitlin Pusich led all scorers with 20 points and Alyxn Bohulano scored 10.
Eight different Falcons players scored seven or fewer points. Junior Nina Fenumiai, who scored 13 points on Saturday, was held to five.
JDHS plays Ketchikan on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. The Falcons play in an elimination game Thursday against the loser of Wednesday’s JDHS-Kayhi tilt.
