The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé boys showed why they’re the first seed of the Region V Tournament this year with a dominant performance against Ketchikan for the second night of 4A games on Thursday. JDHS managed to stay comfortably in the lead every quarter for a 82-66 finish.
JDHS coach Robert Casperson said the coaches feel “blessed” and “fortunate” to have a group of high school players show up consistently the way this Crimson Bears team does.
“It’s really fun to just be a part of at this point,” Casperson said. “That’s a player-led team, and we’re just there to try and keep them in the guardrails and offer some suggestions but a lot of the stuff we’re doing is stuff that they’re choosing to do, so that’s awesome. The guys have responded to the challenge every time and sometimes it can be play from that number one position because teams are gunning for you and you gotta be ready for everybody’s best shot. Ketchikan’s a tough team and they shoot the ball really well, I’m sure that’s going to be a real battle between Ketchikan and Thunder Mountain.”
JDHS junior Sean Oliver led the Crimson Bears in scoring with a total of 24 points, and senior Orion Dybdahl with 17 points. Ketchikan’s Marcus Stockhausen had 21 points with Archie Dundas coming in with 15. Ketchikan will next face off against Thunder Mountain for an elimination on Friday at 1:15 p.m. JDHS will have a chance to claim a Region V title with a win in that game.
