The Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball team won two matches in Sitka on Friday night.
In a best-of-three game, JDHS defeated Sitka 2-0. The Crimson Bears won 25-16, 25-23.
The Crimson Bears then defeated Mt. Edgecumbe High School in five sets: 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 15-10.
“They’ve got some really dynamic hitters but really their passing and serving was what was giving us fits tonight,” JDHS coach Dale Bontrager said of Mt. Edgecumbe. “We got in their heads a bit with the block. Cassie (Dzinich) and Jessica (Pierce) got some blocks and we played great defense at times too.”
Bontrager said he was looking for the team to minimize their errors, which hurt them at times in the West Anchorage Spiketacular Tournament.
JDHS played two more matches against Sitka and Mt. Edgecumbe on Saturday night. Look online for the Juneau Empire’s coverage of those games or go to Facebook.com/JuneauSports.

On Friday, TMHS won the first set against Mt. Rainier High School 25-22, but then dropped the next three, 20-25, 23-25, 19-25.
