The Crimson Bears girls took a straight-set loss from Wasilla High School in the first round of the 4A volleyball state tournament Thursday in Anchorage.
Wasilla came out hot against JDHS, who had beaten the Warriors in the only match the two played in the regular season. JDHS fell 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17 for a final score of 75-46.
JDHS slips to the losers bracket for an 8 a.m. Friday match against Colony, whom they’ve lost to three times this year.
The Crimson Bears aren’t out of the running yet; the tournament runs a true double elimination format. If they can fend off a second loss, JDHS would play two more games Friday (at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.) for a shot at the losers bracket championship at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will need to beat the winners bracket champions twice to claim the 4A crown.
