Juneau’s two varsity high school boys basketball teams are slated to play again at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. This article will be updated with additional results.
Whether on your feet or the edge of your seat, Wednesday night’s Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé boys game against Thunder Mountain High School had no shortage of suspense.
TMHS managed to maintain a 1-point lead for most of the in-conference, cross-town clash with the exception of an 8-point lead at the end of the third quarter, however, JDHS senior Kai Hargrave would put the final two nails in the coffin by sinking two free throw shots with 1.7 seconds left in the game, securing the win for the Crimson Bears, 55-54.
JDHS junior Sean Oliver led in scoring with 18 points while TMHS junior Thomas Baxter led his team with 17 points. Hargrave said while he was happy to bring home the win, ultimately, the victory was a team effort.
“My legs were a little shaky but we practice free throws a lot,” Hargrave said. “A lot of my teammates got us to that point, Sean hit a lot of threes, OJ down low, Alwen dropping dimes, all that stuff helped us get there. I just happened to foul at the end for two easy shots, that’s all.”
Next the Crimson Bears and Falcons face off on Thursday night at THMS at 7:15 p.m. for their second conference match of the season.
