With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night in Anchorage, Alex Muir took ball four.
And just like that, it was game over.
Juneau Post 25 continued their remarkable season (17-1 league, 22-2 overall) Wednesday night against South Post 4 at the American Legion State Baseball Tournament. Muir’s walk ushered in Finn Collins from third base, giving Juneau the 8-7 victory. Juneau plays Service Post 28 in the semifinals Thursday night.
Juneau Post 25 defeated Kenai Post 20 on Tuesday in the first round of the tournament.
South Post 4 fell behind early in Wednesday’s night game, but found their footing in the sixth inning, when they tied the game at 3-3.
Cody Leslie, Derek McGinnis and Anthony Maldonado all singled in the seventh, and South took a 6-3 lead.
Donavin McCurley and Kasey Watts scored in bottom of the seventh to bring Juneau within one run.
Collins stranded three runners in the eight inning, setting up Zeb Storie’s go-ahead, 2 RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.
South would tie the game in the top of the ninth, but Juneau won the game after drawing four consecutive walks with no outs.
