Fifteen of Juneau’s fastest teenage ski racers returned Monday after racing in the the Alyeska Cup State Championships Feb. 8-12 in Girdwood.
Approximatley 100 racers spread out over four age classes competed in slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom events.
“It was a super fun trip, great cameraderie, good kids, friendships,” said Juneau Ski Club coach Randy Bates.
It was the Juneau Ski Club’s first inter-club race competition this year. The Alyeska Ski Club and members of the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves were also represented at the meet.
JoJo Griggs, Colby Goldstein, Abby Pressing and Cam Skaggs all earned podium finishes in individual races.
Griggs won first overall in the giant slalom with a combined time of 1:54.49.
“That’s a combined age class of 15, 16, 17, and 18-year-old kids,” Bates said. “For JoJo, as a 15-year-old, to win that class is just outstanding. I think one of the significant pieces there is she had crashed the previous two runs that day, so for her to come and put together two more ripping runs like she did was just outstanding.”
