Juneau swimmer PJ Foy’s big year just keeps getting better.

He competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. He enrolled at the University of North Carolina earlier this month. And he named the U.S. Junior National Team last week.

Foy was among 71 swimmers named to the roster and one of three boys picked for the 100-meter butterfly.

The six-time state champion out of Thunder Mountain High won his signature event at the Northwest Spring Sectionals in Federal Way, Washington, in March with a personal-best time of 53.44 seconds to qualify for the Olympic Trials.

Foy is first swimmer from Juneau to qualifying for the Olympic Trials and, at age 18, was the youngest nationwide to meet the qualifying standard in the 100 fly. The Alaskan is also one of the nation’s top sprint freestylers for among UNC’s recruiting class.

A total of 59 clubs are represented on the Junior National Team, including Juneau’s own Glacier Swim Club.

At the 2023 ASAA state championships, Foy won titles in the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke and was named Most Outstanding Competitor for boys. He was state champion in the 100 fly and 200 free in 2022 after grabbing gold in the 100 breast and 200 IM as a sophomore in 2021.
