JUNEAU EMPIRE

The Gastineau Channel Little League Junior All-Stars surprised perhaps everyone but themselves Monday.

In their first game back from their July 25 state championship win at Adair-Kennedy Field, the Juneau boys blasted Idaho with 19 runs at the Little League Junior West Regional tournament.

The final score was 19-0 as Idaho couldn’t solve Juneau’s pitching or hitting.

Thirteen teams will see action during the course of the week in the San Jose tournament; only one will see its season extend beyond it. The Little League Baseball World Series is August 17-27 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

As of press time, the juniors squad was trailing Cambrian Park Little League in its second game of the tournament. The host team out of San Jose led 8-0 in the sixth inning.
