The Juneau Family Health and Birth Center is sponsoring a Labor Day fun run/walk on Saturday. The 5-mile run and the family-friendly 1-mile walk/run are part of the Southeast Road and Trail Runners’ Empire Cup Series.
The race starts at the JFHBC at 1601 Salmon Creek Lane at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The 1-mile walk/run will turn around near the base of Salmon Creek hill while the 5-mile run will progress up the hill to the power house before returning to the birth center.
“This is a fun way to tie Labor Day to the birth process,” JFHBC Clinical Director Madi Nolan said. “Birth center staff will cheer runners through the hard parts of the run, just as they support women in labor. Labor is healthy and running is healthy — it’s amazing what the body can do!”
“This is the last race before the Klondike Road Relay,” Nolan added. “Get a good hill workout with us, while showing your support for the birth center.”
Nolan said race proceeds ($20 for adults and $1 for kids) will support the Birth Center’s donated health care program and community classes. For more information, contact the birth center at 586-1203 or info@juneaubirthcenter.org.
