The Juneau Family Health and Birth Center’s Labor Day Weekend Fun Run/Walk is Saturday, Sept. 2.
The 5-mile run and the family-friendly 1-mile run/walk are part of the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter Cup Series. The races start at the birth center at 1601 Salmon Creek Lane at 9 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. The 1-miler will turn around near the base of the Salmon Creek hill, while the 5-mile will progress up the hill to the power house before returning to the start.
“This is a fun way to tie Labor Day to the birth process,” JFHBC clinical director Madi Nolan said. “Birth center staff will cheer runners through the hard parts of the run, just as they support women in labor. Labor is healthy and running is healthy — it’s amazing what the body can do!”
The race is $20 for adults and $5 for youth ages 12-18. Proceeds will go to support the center’s donated health care program and community classes.
“This is the last race before the Klondike Road Relay,” Nolan added. “Get a good hill workout with us, while showing your support for the birth center.”
