The Juneau-Douglas and Thunder Mountain High School boys soccer teams play one another for the final time of the season Wednesday at Adair-Kennedy at 6:45 p.m. JDHS will honor its seniors before the game.
The motivation of each squad heading in to the game is quite different from each other.
JDHS looks to finish the regular season with a perfect 8-0 conference record. In the last two weeks, the Crimson Bears beat the Kings four times and the Falcons’ once. In those five games, JDHS won by an average of three goals. On Monday, the Crimson Bears won 6-0 over TMHS on the Falcons’ turf. It was the largest margin of victory this season JDHS has had against TMHS.
According to the 2017 Crimson Bears boys soccer newsletter, JDHS has not lost a conference game in over 13 years. This now equates to over 100 games. Ketchikan was two goals away on both Friday and Saturday of spoiling that streak as they endured 1-0 and 3-2 defeats against JDHS.
With a state tournament out of the picture for TMHS, the Falcons are instead looking to finish the season strong. A close game against the Crimson Bears Wednesday could give them the momentum they need as they play Ketchikan this weekend.
The first and only varsity wins this season for the Falcons arrived earlier in the month against Palmer and Houston. TMHS beat both Palmer and Houston 3-1 May 5-6.
