The first Learn to Swim Day is this Saturday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.
The program, offered free of charge for youth ages 8-17, will be capped at 60 participants. No swimming background is required to participate, and transportation to and from the pool will be provided at pick-up stops in Lemon Creek and Douglas.
Register by going to www.juneaupools.org or completing a form available at either the Augustus Brown Pool and Dimond Park Aquatics Center.
On top of 45-minute swim lesson and water safety and an hour of free time in the water, participants will receive a free towel, pair of goggles and skill assessment. Youth must bring their own swimsuit and dry clothes.
The skill assessment will inform youth if they’re ready to join the Glacier Swim Club pre-competition program or pass the test to become a lifeguard.
“If swimming is not apart of your family culture, you may not know that swimming is something that you are interested in doing,” City and Borough of Juneau Aquatics Manager Julie Jackson said.
