Amherst College soccer, captained by Juneau-Douglas High School alum Jackson Lehnhart, was bounced out of the DIII national tournament in the Sweet 16, losing to Brandeis University in penalty kicks on Nov. 19.
Defending champs Amherst were edged out 3-1 in PKs after a 1-1 game. Lehnhart recorded his team’s only goal in the shootout round.
Brandeis opened scoring 17 minutes into the game and carried a 1-0 lead into the second half. The Purple and White tied the game in the second half with a goal by sophomore Fikayo Ajayi.
Amherst outshot Brandeis 20-12, and had a chance to take a deciding lead in the 103rd minute when a shot BY Kieran Bellow glanced off the post. The game marked Lehnhart’s last with Amherst, ash he is set to graduate this year.
