Majors softball falls in District championship

‘It was a long week’ of softball, their coach said.

The Juneau Major Softball All-Star team lost twice to Sitka in three days at the Alaska District 2 Little League Tournament, which ended on Sunday.

The Juneau team lost in the championship game to Sitka 6-4 on Sunday following a nail-biting 4-3 extra innings loss two nights earlier, ending the tournament with a 2-3 record.

“I thought on the whole they were a very solid team and they did an excellent job,” Juneau coach Mike Lovejoy said of his team. “It was a really fun tournament, all the teams were really evenly matched.”

Juneau picked up wins against Sitka during against round robin play and against Ketchikan in the double elimination tournament. Juneau defeated Sitka 7-4 on Wednesday, and Ketchikan 8-5 on Saturday. In total, Juneau played five games in seven days.

“It was a lot softball to play,” Lovejoy said.

Juneau’s Mila Hargrave pitched the majority of the games, with Jack Lovejoy and Cambry Lockhart chipping in here and there.
