Player of the Week: Chaz VanSlyke

Chaz VanSlyke is the Juneau Empire’s player of the week.

VanSlyke, a freshman at Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaat.at Kalé, won two races last weekend at the Petersburg Invitational swimming meet. The ninth-grader won the 200-yard IM in 2 minutes, 6.56 seconds, on Friday, over three seconds in front of the second-place finisher. The following day, VanSlyke narrowly edged Ketchikan’s Bryce Mattson teammate Noah Loseby in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing first in 1:00.09, 0.04 and 0.61 seconds, respectively, in front of Mattson and Loseby.

The Crimson Bears and Thunder Mountain High School will compete in the Region V Swimming Championships next weekend in Sitka.
