Thunder Mountain High School sophomore Matthew Quinto is the Juneau Empire player of the week.
The Falcons athlete won both the one-foot high kick and kneel hop Friday at the Native Youth Olympics hosted by Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and Sealaska Corporation.
Quinto’s jump of 92 inches (7 feet, 8 inches) in the one-foot high kick beat out around 15 other male participants. Quinto also won a gold medal in the kneel jump. The sophomore’s jump of 43.5 inches surpassed second and third-place finishers Byron Dock (39.75 inches) and Joseph Dundore (36.25 inches), respectively.
Quinto and eight other teammates are competing in NYO Games Alaska in Anchorage from April 26-28.
