Player of the Week: Mitchell McDonald

Mitchell McDonald is the Juneau Empire’s player of the week.

McDonald, a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School, cheered his soccer team onto victory from Seattle on Saturday evening. The Crimson Bears’ 2-1 victory over Ketchikan was part of a series of Cancer Awareness Games that raised over $8,000 Mitchell, who has been sidelined with Rhabdomyosarcomatous and is undergoing treatment in Seattle.

Mitchell watched the game from an internet livestream.

Dugan McNutt scored in the first half and Aidan Hopson added another goal in the second half.

The JDHS boys soccer team plays against Soldotna on Friday at 7 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.
