The Juneau Post 25 baseball team took their first loss of the American Legion State Tournament Thursday night.
The Juneau ball club lost to Service Post 28, 4-3, as the victor’s sharp fielding shutout Juneau over the final seven innings.
Zeb Storie and Alex Muir were their productive selves, accounting for four of the six total Juneau hits, but Service Post 28’s standouts showed up, too.
Raleigh Pigg homered, walked and struck out six batters in his seven innings on the mound. In the fifth inning, Cougars’ infielders Cobey Cupp and Jaren Childs turned a 6-4-3 double play to fend off a Juneau run.
Juneau Post 25 must now win three games in a row to win the state championship. They play Dimond Post 21 on Friday in an elimination game for both teams.
Dimond, who entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, lost to South Post 4 in the first round but won their next two games to stave off elimination.
Dimond accounted for one of the Juneau Post 25’s two losses over the course of the regular season.
