Trails around Auke Lake will remain open to the public this Saturday, but those on the trail will need to keep their eyes and ears open for runners.
The Juneau Trail & Road Runners’ Lake Loops Relay will occupy a trio of trails — the Kaxdigoowu Heen dei Trail, the adjacent Horse Trail and Auke Lake Trail — from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The trails are still open for everyone, but those who are looking to take a leisurely stroll should be cautious for runners, Parks & Recreation advised in a Public Service Announcement on Thursday.
In past years, the relay has been called the Seacoast Relay, but the name has changed to Lake Loops this year. The 24-mile relay is five legs, all of them starting and ending in front of the Mourant Building in the main courtyard at the University of Alaska Southeast. Registration, on the Juneau Trail and Roadrunners website, closes at 8 p.m. Friday and costs $10 for those 18 and over and $1 for those under 18.
