Second-inning blast helps JDHS top Sitka

The Crimson Bears softball team took Sitka down 11-3 on Friday, helped largely by a 6-run second inning. With the win, Juneau-Douglas High School improved their record to 7-5 on the season.

Sophomore Leah Spargo led the way from the plate with two hits at two at-bats for two RBIs. Senior Quincy Bates added two RBIs of her own while going 2-4 at the plate.

Bates led from the mound with four strikeouts and one earned run in four innings pitched.

JDHS and Sitka played again Saturday afternoon. Look to the Empire online and Tuesday’s print edition for coverage.
