The Juneau-Douglas High School baseball team is headed to the state tournament.
JDHS, with starting pitcher Donavin McCurley, beat Thunder Mountain High School this weekend 8-1 to advance to the championship game against Sitka in the Region V Baseball Tournament at Norman Walker Field in Ketchikan.
The Crimson Bears then beat Sitka 6-4 in the first championship game, giving the Wolves their first loss of the tournament.
Sitka came back in the next game, though, and won the Region tournament by besting JDHS 12-1 in mercy rule that ended after five innings.
Both JDHS and Sitka go to the Alaska School Activities Association/First National Bank Alaska Baseball State Championship tournament, which begins Thursday in Anchorage. JDHS had the best conference record this season, 11-1.
JDHS will play South Anchorage in the first round of the tournament. All games will be played at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
