Juneau-Douglas High School hockey hosts Dimond junior varsity for games Friday and Saturday at Treadwell Ice Arena. Games start at 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
JDHS (2-4) heads into the matches fresh off its first two wins, having beat Hutchison High School (1-3) twice before the Thanksgiving break. Dimond (4-4) is currently ranked fourth in the Cook Inlet Conference, Alaska’s biggest and most competitive conference.
This weekend’s matches should sharpen JDHS’ game before they travel to North Pole High School next weekend for their first conference matches.
Wrestlers at Wrangell
Juneau’s combined wrestling program heads to Wrangell this weekend for their last tournament before the Region V meet in Stika Dec. 9 and 10. JDHS senior standout Cody Weldon will look to continue his dominance of Alaska’s mats with his fifth win at 220-pounds.
Weldon is currently undefeated and favored to win state at 220.
Matches take place Friday and Saturday. Look for results at the Empire online and in Tuesday’s print edition.
