The Thunder Mountain High School girls basketball team fell to a dominant West Valley team in Wednesday’s tournament opener at the Lady Lynx Prep Shootout at Dimond High School.
The Falcons took most of their damage in the fourth quarter, ceding 18 points in the final period and putting up only one field goal of their own in a 50-27 loss.
West Valley’s 6’4” senior Ruthy Hebard led all scorers with 18 points, followed by senior Amber Szmyd with 10, and senior Teresa Sample and freshman Ellen Silva with five each.
The Falcons were led by Nina Fenumiai with eight, Siniva Maka with six and Ava Tompkins with five.
Thunder Mountain stayed with West Valley in the first quarter, and led by two going into the second. TMHS then allowed 10 points while only scoring four in the second period, and went into halftime down 18-14.
The Falcons were outscored by another three points in the third, but were still in the game going into the fourth down while trailing 32-25.
West Valley’s Sample led her team to a dominating fourth quarter, which saw the Wolf Pack score 18 to TMHS’ two, ending any uncertainty that West Valley would be victorious.
