Will skate for money

Juneau Douglas Ice Association youth hockey teams are about to embark on trips throughout the state to compete in a series of state hockey tournaments sponsored by the Alaska State Hockey Association.

Tournaments started March 17 and, depending on the team, continue each weekend through April 3.

Each player raises money to finance to help cover team expenses. The fundraisers are team builders. Last month, JDIA’s Squirts (ages 10 and under) held its annual Skate-A-Thon. Players collectively skated 2,584 laps, or 235 miles. Stein Dostal led all skaters with 140 laps, or 12.7 miles.

JDIA has established a link so friends and family nationwide can watch their team of choice play.
